Ofloxacin 400 mgIndications
Used for treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as:
-
Respiratory tract: e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia.

Urinary tract and prostate: e.g., cystitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis.

Skin & soft tissue, sexually transmitted infections (e.g., gonorrhoea, chlamydia).
Instructions
-
Dosage:
-
Typically 400 mg once or twice daily, depending on infection (e.g. 400 mg q12h for respiratory/skin; single 400 mg dose for uncomplicated gonorrhoea)

In urinary infections, may start 200 mg daily and escalate to 400 mg twice daily if required .

Administration:

Take with or without food; swallow with plenty of water.

Avoid antacids, iron, zinc 2 hours before/after dose (can reduce absorption)

Generally 3–14 days depending on indication; single dose for uncomplicated gonorrhoea.

Complete full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve

Dose adjustments:

In renal impairment (CrCl <50 mL/min): dosing frequency reduced (e.g., q24h or half dose) .

No dose change required purely for age, but monitor renal function in elderly
Cautions:-
Avoid in pregnancy, lactation, children/adolescents due to musculoskeletal risks

Watch for serious side effects: tendonitis/rupture, neuropathy, CNS effects—stop and seek medical help if experienced

Avoid excessive sunlight exposure due to photosensitivity risk.
