Indications

• Used alongside diet to treat primary hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa), mixed dyslipidemia (Type IIb), primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (Type III), severe hypertriglyceridemia (Type IV), and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

• Also prescribed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events (e.g., MI, stroke) in adults with elevated risk markers.
   

Instructions

• Administration: Oral, once daily, with or without food. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

• Dosage:

  • Typical start: 10 mg once daily; consider 5 mg once daily for Asian patients, elderly, or those at risk of myopathy.

  • Adjust every 4 weeks based on lipid response and individual risk; maximum dose up to 40 mg daily for severe cases.

  • Adolescents (10–17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: 5–20 mg daily.
