Indications
Emla Cream is indicated for:
-
Topical anaesthesia of the skin in connection with needle insertion (e.g., intravenous catheters or blood sampling) and superficial surgical procedures in adults and the paediatric population.

Topical anaesthesia of the genital mucosa prior to superficial surgical procedures or infiltration anaesthesia in adults and adolescents ≥12 years.

Topical anaesthesia of leg ulcers to facilitate mechanical cleansing/debridement in adults only.
Instructions

Application Time:
-
For minor procedures (e.g., needle insertion): Apply 2g (approximately half a 5g tube) or 1.5g/10 cm² for 1 to 5 hours.

For dermal procedures on newly shaven skin of large body areas (e.g., laser hair removal): Maximum recommended dose is 60g over a maximum treated area of 600 cm² for a minimum of 1 hour, maximum 5 hours.

For dermal surgical procedures on larger areas in a hospital setting (e.g., split-skin grafting): Apply approximately 1.5–2g/10 cm² for 2 to 5 hours.

For genital mucosa: Apply 1g/10 cm² for 15 minutes (male) or 1–2g/10 cm² for 60 minutes (female).

For leg ulcers: Apply approximately 1–2g/10 cm² up to a total of 10g for 30–60 minutes.

Application Method:

Ensure the skin is clean and dry.
-
Apply a thick layer of Emla Cream to the area.
-
Cover with an occlusive dressing (e.g., Tegaderm® dressing or plastic wrap).
-
Remove the dressing immediately before the procedure.
-
Wipe off the cream and clean the area with alcohol.
-

Storage:

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
-
Do not store above 30°C and do not freeze.
-
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package and tube after “EXP:”.

Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
