Content

• Active Ingredient: Propranolol hydrochloride 40 mg per tablet
• Excipients: Each tablet contains 147 mg of lactose monohydrate
• Formulation: Pink, round, biconvex, film-coated tablets, imprinted with “40” on one face and bisected on the reverse face
• Packaging: 100 tablets per bottle

Indication
Inderal 40mg Tablets are indicated for the treatment of:

• Hypertension: To lower high blood pressure
• Angina Pectoris: To manage chest pain
• Post-Myocardial Infarction: For long-term prophylaxis after recovery from acute myocardial infarction
• Cardiac Arrhythmias: To control most forms of cardiac dysrhythmias
• Migraine Prophylaxis: To prevent migraine headaches
• Essential Tremor: To manage involuntary shaking
• Anxiety: To relieve situational and generalized anxiety symptoms, particularly those of somatic type
• Thyrotoxicosis: As an adjunctive management of thyrotoxicosis and thyrotoxic crisis
• Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy: To manage this condition
• Pheochromocytoma: In the peri-operative management of pheochromocytoma (with an alpha-blocker)

Instructions

• Dosage:
  • Hypertension: Starting dose of 80 mg twice a day; may be increased at weekly intervals according to response. The usual dose range is 160–320 mg per day.
  • Angina, Anxiety, Migraine, Essential Tremor: Starting dose of 40 mg two or three times daily; may be increased by the same amount at weekly intervals according to patient response. An adequate response is usually seen in the range of 80–160 mg/day for anxiety, migraine, and essential tremor, and 120–240 mg/day for angina.
  • Arrhythmias, Thyrotoxicosis, Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, Pheochromocytoma: Dosage should be individualized based on clinical response and tolerability.
  • Post-Myocardial Infarction: Treatment should start between days 5 and 21 after myocardial infarction, with an initial dose of 40 mg four times a day for 2 or 3 days. In order to improve compliance, the total daily dosage may thereafter be given as 80 mg twice a day.
  • Portal Hypertension: Dosage should be titrated to achieve approximately 25% reduction in resting heart rate. Dosage should begin with 40 mg twice daily, increasing to 80 mg twice daily depending on heart rate response. • Administration: Take tablets orally, preferably 1 hour before or 3 hours after meals to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush.
• Contraindications:
  • Hypersensitivity to propranolol or any component of the tablet
  • Severe bradycardia
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Uncontrolled heart failure
  • Asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place)
• Precautions:
  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment
  • Monitor for signs of bradycardia, hypotension, and heart failure
  • Avoid use in patients with asthma or a history of bronchospasm
  • Caution in diabetic patients, as beta-blockers may mask hypoglycemic symptoms
  • Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
  • Use with caution during breastfeeding; consult a healthcare provider
