Indications:

• Primary Use: Sedation of initially intubated and mechanically ventilated patients in an intensive care setting.
• Mechanism: Dexmedetomidine has a broad range of pharmacological properties, including sedative, analgesic, and anesthetic-sparing effects. It works by decreasing the release of noradrenaline in sympathetic nerve endings and reducing the firing of the locus coeruleus in the brainstem.
